Warren McPherson founded Athens Montessori School over 30 years ago. Previously, he taught at the Wausau Montessori School in Wisconsin. Upon his arrival in Athens, Georgia, he directed the Children’s Montessori House of Athens, a parent cooperative, before launching Athens Montessori School. Warren is a graduate of Cornell University and the Washington Montessori Institute where he received his Montessori certification. More recently he received a Masters of Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University.
In addition to his responsibilities as school director, Warren founded The Montessori Teachers Institute, and he also works as a teacher trainer, consultant and workshop presenter. Warren has served as President of the Morton Theatre, Athens United Soccer, Arts Oglethorpe Trustees, Athens Area Arts Council and Georgia Association of the Young Child. Professionally, he has served as president of Montessori Education Program International and Pan-American Montessori World Organization, and as director for the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education.
Warren is passionate about creativity in education, theater and organic gardening. He performs in Town and Gown Community Theater productions from time to time, directs plays at AMS, and helped shape the landscaping and garden resources of the school.
